October New Releases

Image
THIS IS HALLOWEEN, THIS IS HALLOWEEN! It's October, probably one of my most favorite months and this month's new releases are just making me more excited! Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J Maas Genre: YA, Fantasy Release Date: Oct 23  AHHHHH! The Throne of Glass series is ending! I started reading this series last year and I'm pretty sad that it's ending. So instead of me explaining this book, let me just explain what the series is about. This book takes place in a kingdom in which magic is forbidden and the series follows mainly a female assassin named Celaena Sarodthein who at the beginning of the series is in a work prison, but she has an opportunity to be released. By competing to become the king's assassin. Now the series has enveloped so much more, but because I'm not even caught up, I don't want to spoil the last books (I'm currently reading Queen of Shadows), even though probably everyone has read, if not heard of, the Throne of Glass se

One Of Us is Lying Review

**This is review is going to have spoilers in it, but they will be sectioned off. If you all like this format, I'll continue it.**    Alright, so this book came out last year and oh my goodness I was blown away by this book! I read this book back in July and this book is still sticking in my mind. For those of you who haven't heard about this book it's essentially The Breakfast Club  meets Pretty Little Liars . When Bronwyn, Addy, Nate, Cooper, and Simon are all sent into detention little did they know that one of them is not going to coming out alive. When the four are suspected of murdering the fifth, they must "team up" to figure out who killed the fifth. What I loved about this book is that this book covers SO MANY different issues high schoolers face: the perfection strive, relationships, bullying, and the presence of social media without it feeling like it's intentionally trying to make you focus on these issues. Also this book jumps between

September New Releases

Image
Okay, so I've changed my setup for these new releases and now I will just be talking about the top five books I am interested in for the month. HOWEVER, this will not include sequels for series mainly because I'm already hyped (as are some of you) and this way I can talk about maybe some books that are being super hyped.  An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green Genre:YA, Contemporary Release Date: September 25  Okay, so I know that this book is pretty hyped already, but I'm still really excited about this one and I always love supporting another Youtuber. But this book is about April May who stumbles across a giant  sculpture while going home from work at 3am. April and her friend, Andy, make a video with it and by the next day, their video has gone viral. News spread and there are apparently dozens of these sculptures all over the world, but April's video is the first one to have documented it, thus forcing her into the spotlight.  E

August New Releases

While some of you might be going back to school, that doesn't mean that I'm gonna stop reading. Okay I gotta stop with these cheesy openings let's get into the new releases.  Catwoman: Soulstealer by Sarah J Maas Genre: Release Date: August 7  Now I have to admit, I'm not knowledgeable about super heroes, Marvel, DC, all that; BUT I am slowly trying to get into them (if you guys follow me on Goodreads, which you should, you will see all the comics  I've been reading recently). Now with that all aside this book is about Selina Kyle (who I assume is catwoman) who after escaping Gotham City's slums learns that Batman is off and Batwing is left to hold down the fort, which means Gotham City is ripe for the taking. Now my main allure to wanting to read this because one: like I said, trying to get into superheroes, two I love shady people as protagonists, and three, SARAH J MAAS! A Killer's Mind by Mike Omer Genre: Mystery, Thriller Release Date:

Hyped Books I HAVEN'T Read

Image
Okay, so for many of you, you probably don't know that I haven't really read that much in the past six years. Well I got back into it in the past year, but honestly I think from 2011 until 2017,  I read maybe five or six books. I know, it's devastating and because of that INCREDIBLY long reading slump there's a lot of books that I haven't read yet. So I've scoured through my Goodreads to read list along with watching some Booktubers talk about some very hyped books. I will say, it's okay to be shocked that I haven't read these, but don't worry, I will be getting to them. In fact you can keep up with everything I read not only on my Goodreads, but also Knives as Bookmarks has a Twitter and Instagram, so you can keep up with the blog on there and maybe even control my future TBRs, we'll see where that goes, so go ahead and follow me on those at KnivesasBookmarks. But anyways, let jump into the part where I shame myself for not reading pretty mu

Series I Need to Catch up On

Image
Okay, so like most of y'all, we get started on a series only to never finish it until another book in the series comes out or you finally realize that you never finished the series and you forgot everything you read prior. Fortunately for me, most of these books fall into the first camp, but that doesn't mean if I don't catch up or finish these series I will still remember what the heck the books were about. So let's get into the series.  Creekwood by Becky Albertalli  Okay, this might not technically be a series, but Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda has, at least, a companion novel, Leah on the Offbeat. I flippin loved Simon and I really wanna to know more about Leah. I'm also not sure there are any plans for there to be more books set in this world or if just these two, but at least I just have one more book in the series. Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine   This one goes super dark and it's about a woman who was married to a serial killer and h

Around the World Reading Challenge

Why hello there everyone. It's been a while since I've last posted on here, but don't worry I'm back for at least the foreseeable future. Now let's get into the actual reading challenge   Not a lot of y'all probably know this about me but I love travelling. I've always been a history junkie and I love learning about different cultures. Hopefully I'll be able to say that I've been to every country in the world, but for right now while I slowly set foot in every country; I want to at least read something from every country. So the goal for this challenge is to read at least one book set in every country in the world (or have a main character from that country) AND read a book where the author who is from that country.  Now that might not make too much sense, but don't worry I'll have my list at the end, but essentially I want to at least read two books about every country in the world. I know that some countries will be immensely harde

July New Releases

Image
It's finally summer which means enjoying a nice iced drink while downing a good story. The days are longer and the list of new releases are just as long. Fruit of the Drunken Tree by Ingrid Rojas Contreras Genre: Historical Fiction Release Date: July 31   This book is centered around a young sheltered girl, Chula Santiago, and a teenage maid, Petrona,  striking up a friendship in 1990s Columbia. The Santiago's live in a gated community in Bogota, safe from the violence terrorizing the country. Their mother hires a live in maid from the slums named Petrona and Chula makes it her mission to understand Petrona's mysterious ways.  While most of the books I've been drawn to have been YA fantasy or thrillers, I've always been interested in history from a young age and since this book is inspired by the author's own life, I am much more interested. To the Bridge: A True Story of Motherhood and Murder by Nancy Rommelmann Genre: True Crime Release Da

Most Anticipated New Releases for June

Image
So I'm super excited for this month. For one it's my birth month, my birthday's the 15th, so I will get plenty of money to buy new books and some new releases I am VERY excited about. A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir Genre: YA, Fantasy Release Date: June 12   Okay, so I love this series. If you haven't read, I finally recommend it. I can't talk too much about this book without spoiling the first two but the series revolves around two people: Laia, a young girl who is a Scholar, a group that is oppressed by the Martials, and is forced to become a slave of the Commandant in order to save her brother; and Elias, a Martial student at the Academy who ends up being one of the graduates who are competing to be the new ruler of the Empire. In this book, we got failing empires with a possibly crazy emperor and an underhanded Commandant; as well as a grim reaper type character. I'm tempted to reread the series before this book comes out because I'm dr
