Murder Monday #7 The Parachute Murder

Okay, if there was ever a way to end the month of love it's with talking about the Parachute Murder, granted I never heard of it before I started researching for the blog, but oh boy are you guys in for a doozy.    So, everything started on November 18, 2006, when Els Van Doren, Els Clottemans, and Marcel Somers went skydiving together and it ended up with Van Doren's primary and reserve parachute failing to deploy, causing her to fall to her death from the height of over 2 miles. The police established that the cords of the parachute had been cut and Van Doren's video camera captured the dive (I have no idea if the video is out there, but I didn't really want to watch someone plummet to their death.) As the police continued the investigation and learned of a love triangle between the three of them, in which Clottemans was in love with Sommers and Sommers was in love with Van Doren AND Van Doren and Clottemans had a sexual relationship with Sommers. So Clotte

13 Minutes Review

I don't know how popular this book was on the internet, nor do I remember who I got this as a recommendation from, but I am here to tell you to give this book a try. So the overall premise is that one of the popular girls, Natasha, was found in a freezing river and was declared dead... but for 13 minutes and the story is told kind of in dual perspectives: Natasha, although I remember it mostly from a journal her therapist recommended her keeping, and Becca, Natasha's ex-best friend for several years. At first, Becca doesn't really care all that much about Natasha but feels the need to go to the hospital and from there Becca and Natasha slowly start to reconnect when Natasha tells her that she thinks her best friends were the ones that pushed her into the river and left her for dead. This is a UK book and I swear UK thrillers are always really twisty and at first, I thought this book was going to be a drag and boy was I wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was com

Murder Monday #6 Gwen Graham and Cathy Wood

Gwen Graham, born on August 6, 1963, in Texas, and Cathy Wood, born on March 7, 1962, in Michigan, met at the Alpine Manor nursing home where they worked as nurses aides. Their relationship quickly grew to friends, then lovers and murder partners. According to Wood's account, in January 1987, Graham smothered a patient with Alzheimer's while Wood was the lookout. The death appeared to be natural, so no autopsy was done. Over the next few months, Graham murdered four more patients with Alzheimer's and at first, they were trying to select victims so to spell "murder," but eventually counted their murders as a "day," and they would tell each other "I will love you forever and a day" or "I will love you forever and four days" as they accumulated kills. Wood also claims that Graham collected souvenirs from the victims, which were never found, and that Graham was the dominant in their relationship. Their relationship ended when Graha

My Lady Jane Review **NONSPOILER**

So I am SUPER late with this book, but if you're one of the few people that haven't read this book, I am here to change your mind on that. This is revisionist historical fiction with a fun twist telling the story of Lady Jane Grey, the nine-day queen. I don't know if this counts as a trigger warning but there is a bit of implied incest, mostly just in the romantic aspect nothing super creepy, but it's the 1500, we have to stay accurate to history right 😉. So in this book, instead of the English monarchy being ravaged by the Protestants v. Catholics, it actually is because of  Eðian . Now  Eðian s are essentially people that can transform into animals, they only can transform into one particular animal and of course, they have to learn how to control it. Henry VIII was an  Eðian,  King Edward and Lady Jane Grey are supporters of  Eðians and secretly wished they were one, and Mary Queen of Scots absolutely hates them. This has three different points of view, King

Murder Monday #5 Emilia Carr

Born Emilia Yera on August 4, 1984, in Citra, Florida. She was the second of three sisters and a psychologist estimated her IQ to be 125. When he was 15, she reported abuse by her father, but then withdrew her statement; eventually, her father was convicted of attempting to solicit the murders of his family and sentenced to four years in prison.     Carr was married twice and had three children. She had to file a restraining order against one of her ex-husbands and was also sentenced to two years of probation for her involvement in her ex-husband's grand theft of exotic birds(not sure if it was the same ex as the one she had to get the restraining order from). In November 2008, she was engaged to Joshua Fulgham, who ended marrying Heather Strong one month later, although Carr stayed in contact with them, babysitting Strong's two children. In January 2009, Fulgham was arrested for threatening Strong with a shotgun, but eventually, the charges were dropped; it was later re

Time for another YA mystery novel, and in case you guys couldn’t tell it’s one of my favorite genres . This book is fairly stereotypical to a lot of YA murder mysteries, the story/ murder takes place at protagonist’s school and usually they are connected to the victim or are implicated in the crime so they feel the urge to solve the case themselves, and of course they have a secret they must keep; but I still enjoyed it. So this book revolves around Kay Donovan, a senior star soccer player at a private school, who ends up finding the body of a fellow student. As the police try to determine whether the girl’s death was either a suicide or something more nefarious, Kay gets an email from the dead sends Kay on a scavenger hunt to implicate who killed her, Kay not only teams up with Nola, a loner at her school, to help her with the coding in the scavenger hunt, but slowly starts to implicate herself in the girl’s death. Kay needs to keep up her scholarship, but also keep her

Murder Monday #4 Faye & Ray Copeland

Ray Copeland was born on December 30, 1914, in Oklahoma. His family moved around a lot when he was younger during the Great Depression, where he began a life of petty crime, stealing livestock and forging checks. Faye Wilson was born on August 4, 1921, in Arkansas, however, not much can be found about her past. Ray was eventually caught for his false checks and spent a year in jail in 1939. When he was released, he met Faye and they soon got married. They had several children and had to move around often due to Ray's notoriety. He would serve several jail sentences and eventually came up with a plan to improve his illegal money- making methods so he could remain undetected.          Faye and Ray eventually settled down on a farm in Mooresville, Missouri, and Ray would start to pick up drifters and hobos to work as farmhands since Ray couldn't buy or sell cattle due to his criminal past. So Ray's plan was that he would take the farmhands to the market, armed with his
