The Deep Review

Image
Usually, I don't like novellas, they're okay but I never really get the sense of knowing what's going on and who the characters really are, just because you don't have much time to go in-depth into character development (also most of the novellas I read are romance so just keep that in mind), but this book just exceeded all my expectations.  So the premise is about the Wajinru "people," essentially they are almost like mermaids however they are the descendants of the pregnant African slave women who were thrown overboard by slavers. For most of them, they live fairly idyllic lives in the depths of the ocean; however, the Historian is one who must bear the burden of their people's harsh past and it's only during the Remembering that the rest of the Wajinru remember their past. Our protagonist Yetu is the current Historian who believes that her role as Historian is slowly sapping her of her existence and leaving her as a husk for the Wajinru

Lock Every Door Review

Okay, so I figured that everyone that wants to reads this book has already read it, but GUYS, this book was so good! As much as I want to talk to people about all the spoilery things that happened, I know that I need to make this review a push for people that are on the fence or people that insist they aren't going to read this book, to read it. So, the book is about a woman named Jules who, at the beginning of the book, was let go from her job and broke up with her cheating boyfriend in the same day or at least relatively close together, and finds a job listing that she can't turn down. Apartment sitting for 3 months accruing her a total of 12 thousand dollars at the prestigious Bartholomew, a glamorous and secretive apartment complex in Manhattan. While things seem a bit off, such as the rules that she's not allowed to have visitors or that she's not allowed to sleep away from the property, but Jules chalks it to the other tenants wanting their privacy, si

The Worst Best Man Review

So before I start with my first ever ARC review, shout out to Edelweiss for giving me a copy of this book. Also, this book doesn't come out until February 4. Okay, now onto the review. If any of you made the resolution this year to more diversely or to read more books by own-voices authors then look no further for the fun book that is The Worst Best Man. Honestly, this book was so much fun and cute, while also having some really fun BAMF female characters.  So, the book is about Lina Santos who is the owner of her wedding planning business, Dotting the I Dos, and at the start of the novel she's about to get married until her fiance, Andrew, decides the day of the wedding that he can't go through with it because of what his brother, Max, had said the night before. Three years later, Lina is given an incredible opportunity to expand her business by working with the Cartwright Hotel Group as their Wedding Event Planner. However, she must work with a marketing consultant t

The Unhoneymooners Review

Image
So, I finally got around to reading The Unhoneymooners, or rather any of Christina Lauren's romance novels and ooh boy, is this book a rollercoaster. So this book is all about Olive, a curvy woman who believes she has the absolute worst luck, especially compared to her twin sister Ami who seems to have all the luck. Ami's meet-cute turned into her now-husband and their wedding and honeymoon are practically free through an assortment of giveaways. However, the entire wedding party ends up with terrible food poisoning except for Olive, who's allergic to shellfish, and Ethan, the best man who refuses to eat from a buffet, and a complete ass. Ami begs Olive to take her place on her all-expense paid honeymoon to Hawaii since they can't go. So Olive and Ethan must put their hatred for each other to the side for the sake of a free honeymoon. Overall, I gave this book a 3.5 out of 5 stars because parts of it were cute and adorable, but some parts were... pretty bad.
