January New Releases

So now that it's the new year and all of our resolutions are set in, let's break the 2nd most common one, saving money. I have scoured the goodread's new releases page and found the new releases that I am the most excited for. Let me know in the comments of any new releases YOU are excited for. Also I want to say this as a side note, these are simply blurbs, I personally don't like knowing too much about a book before going in, so they might not say too much to push you to buy or not buy, also I don't want to just straight copy and paste from Goodreads.

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
Release Date: 1.2.2018
Genre: Fantasy, Young Adult

So if any of watch booktube, you've probably heard someone talk about this book. This book follows a girl named Jude whose parents were murdered and her sisters were taken by the High Court of Faerie when she was seven. Now at the age of seventeen, she desperately wants to belong there, but the relationship between humans and fey isn't exactly amicable. So in order to win a place at the Court she must defy Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King. Looming in the distance, a civil war threatens to doom the Court of Faeries and Jude will need to risk her life to save the Faeries and her sisters. This book is a bit longer, with 384 pages, and probably out by the time you guys are reading this, but hey, at least you don't have to wait

Beneath the Sugar Sky- Seanan McGuire
Release Date: 1.8.2018
Genre: Fantasy, Young Adult

If any of you fell in love with the Wayward Children series like I did, you're probably just as excited to continue the series with the 3rd book. This book follows the story of Rini a prophesied daughter. The only thing is that her mother died years before Rini was born. Now Rini wants to bring her mother back from a world without magic. (SN: I'm not 100% sure if you have to read the 2nd book, I haven't gotten the chance to read it yet.) Not only is this book (as well as the whole series) is pretty short, with 160 pages, can we talk about this cover. So much prettiness :)

The Hazelwood- Melissa Albert
Release Date: 1.30.2018
Genre: Fantasy, Young Adult

This book follows seventeen year old Alice who has pretty much lived her life on the road. Her grandmother, the author of a cult-classic book of fairy tales, dies in her estate, and Alice starts to learn the truth about the stories. Her mother is taken by a creature from the Hinterland, the supernatural setting of her grandmother's stories. In order to save her mother, Alice must team up with a Hinterland superfan and venture into the Hazel Wood, her grandmother's estate, and then into the Hinterland. Yet another book that has been talked about quite a bit on booktube and with the combinaton of dark fairy tales, a great winter read.

Zenith- Sasha Alsberg
Release Date: 1.16.2018
Genre: Science Fiction, Fantasy, Young Adult

Speaking of booktube, Sasha Alsberg has a book! This book revolves around an all-girl's space crew, Marauder, led by a powerful mercenary named Androma Racella. In a routine mission gone bad, they are led to be at the mercy of a sadistic bounty hunter from their leader's past.

Hamilton and Peggy- L.M. Elliott
Release Date: 1.2.2018
Genre: Historical Fiction, Young Adult

So I'm sure most of you have heard about the musical Hamilton (and some of you lucky ducks got to see it), so you probably know about the story of Alexander Hamilton and Eliza Hamilton nee Schuyler, maybe even about Angelica, but Peggy always seemed to fall through the cracks. This book goes into the story of Hamilton and Peggy's friendship in the throes of the Revolutionary War.

The Innocent Wife- Amy Lloyd
Release Date: 1.25.2018
Genre: Thriller, Suspense, Mystery

Holy smokes you guys, if you need a pretty dark book, I'm gonna recommend this new release. The Innocent Wife is about a young schoolteacher in Britain who falls in love with Dennis Danson, a convicted murderer on death row, who she believe is falsely accused. Danson now is the subject of a Making a Murderer style documentary, which could reveal his innocence and a gross miscarriage of justice.

Anatomy of a Scandal- Sarah Vaughn
Release Date: 1.23.2018
Genre: Mystery, Suspense, Thriller, Crime, Women's Fiction

So this book completely sucked me in and I'm super excited to read this. This book revolves around a scandal involving James, who is a charismatic and successful public figure, who has been accused of a terrible crime. His wife, Sophie, is convinced he is innocent and is desperately trying to keep her family together. Kate is the prosecutor of James' case and is convinced he is guilty and is determined that James pay for his crimes.  So, who is right? The goodreads summary is pretty vague, but for the most part I enjoy when I don't know too much about a thriller book because it doesn't constrict my mind.

Love, Hate, & Other Filters- Samira Ahmed
Release Date: 1.16.2018
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary

So I've been really wanting to get into own voices novels and books about people that aren't like me and this fits in pretty well. This book is about seventeen year old Maya Aziz who is stuck between two different worlds. While she was born in America, her parents expect her to be the perfect Indian daughter; going to college close to home and being married off to an older Muslim boy. However, her dreams are to go to film school and live in New York City, and choosing her own love. I'm not the biggest fan of contemporary books, but this one sounds really interesting.
