September New Releases

Holy Toledo am I excited for these new releases (sorry I couldn't think of anything September related)

The Testaments by Margaret Atwood
Genre: Sci-Fi, Dystopia, Feminism
Release Date: September 10

Now, not a lot has been released about this sequel, but if you can't tell by the cover it's a sequel for the acclaimed book The Handmaid's Tale. For the maybe 10 people that haven't read it, this is set in a dystopian world where women, handmaids, are essentially used as incubators. Now The Testaments follows Offred 15 years after the ending of The Handmaid's Tale.

The Secret Wife of Aaron Burr by Susan Holloway Scott
Genre: Historical Fiction
Release Date: September 24

Following the massive Broadway show Hamilton, he all know Burr as the SOB that shot Hamilton, but before that, there were claims that Burr was a man who was unafraid of claiming whatever he believed should be his. Mary Emmons was sold into slavery as a child in India and brought to a war-torn America. She quickly gained the trust of her new mistress, Theodosia Prevost, Burr's future wife. When Theodosia falls ill of a fatal disease, Burr and Emmons are drawn together into a private world of power and passion.

The Magnolia Sword by Sherry Thomas
Genre: YA, Fantasy, Retellings
Release Date:

THERE'S FINALLY A MULAN RETELLING! Okay, maybe there's one out there that I haven't heard of yet. Essentially this seems like a pretty straightforward retelling of the Mulan movie: a messenger comes and demands that every family sends one boy to join the army and since her father's paralyzed and her brother's just a child she VOLUNTEERS AS TRIBUTE.

Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
Genre: Fantasy, Sci-Fi, LGBT
Release Date: September 10th

Okay, so a lot of people have said it's best not to know what this book is about, but more or less, the book is about Gideon who is a reanimated corpse in servitude to the Ninth Necromancer, and she is ready to escape the bullshit.

Capturing the Devil by Kerri Maniscalco
Genre: YA, Historical Fiction, Mystery
Release Date: September 10

Okay, let me confess, but I've only read the first book in the series, but I'm silently squealing as I glanced at the synopsis. In the first book, Audrey and Thomas were up against Jack the Ripper, in the second it's a potential Dracula, in the third it's a serial killer on a ship, and finally, in the last book, they are in Chicago attending the World Fair when people are going missing. Eep!
